Checked at every stage, so it arrives right

Good oak is dried properly, graded carefully and checked before it is wrapped. Here is exactly how we do each of those things, stage by stage, so you know what you are getting before it arrives.

What you can count on

  • Made to your sizes, first time

You approve a cutting list or drawing before anything is machined, and every piece is cut to it and labelled. Treads, table tops and panels go on without trimming on site.

  • Dried properly, so it stays flat

Interior timber is kiln dried to 8–10% moisture content and rested before machining. It is the difference between a table top that stays flat and one that cups in the first winter.

  • Graded twice, so you get the grade you ordered

Every board is graded at the mill and checked again when it is picked for your job, so the Prime, Character or Rustic you order is what arrives.

  • The same result on the tenth order

Your cutting lists and drawings stay on file, so a repeat order comes out identical to the first, with no re-measuring and no surprises.

Checked at six stages

Every job is looked at six times on its way through, at the points where a small adjustment is still quick to make.

  1. Stage 01

    List or drawing approval

You sign off the cutting list or drawing before anything is cut, so what we make is exactly what you asked for. Any change at this stage is quick and free.

  2. Stage 02

    Timber selection

Boards are selected for grade and moisture content against the order before they enter production. The meter reading is recorded per batch.

  3. Stage 03

    In-process check

First piece measured on every batch before the rest is run; panels checked for flatness after pressing.

  4. Stage 04

    Pre-finish inspection

Faces and edges checked after sanding and before oil or lacquer goes on, because a mark under a finish is a remake.

  5. Stage 05

    Final inspection

Dimensional check against the approved list, finish checked, piece count verified against the order.

  6. Stage 06

    Packing & dispatch

Packed to our standard, labelled and photographed before the delivery is loaded.

How it is packed

Every pallet follows the same packing standard:

  • Boards and panels on 800 × 1200 mm Euro pallets or long pallets up to 4.2 m, roughly 1.5 t gross maximum.
  • Finished surfaces separated with foam or card interleaving; oiled and lacquered faces never touch.
  • Every pallet finished flat-topped so another can stack on it without crushing the load.
  • Labels on two opposite sides carrying order number, piece count and gross weight.
  • Stretch foil on all sides and a moisture barrier over the top, so a wet day on a site does not reach the timber.
  • Small parts, fixings and samples boxed, labelled and strapped to the pallet they belong to.

Every order is photographed before it is loaded. If something arrives damaged, there is a record of how it left.
