Oak Stair Parts

Floating stair treads, L-shaped stair treads and handrails in solid oak.

The staircase parts stair builders, joinery workshops and developers order most, all in kiln-dried oak and all made to your sizes: floating stair treads, L-shaped treads and risers for stair cladding, and handrails. Pick the product, then the grade, then send the sizes.

Grade

Every product comes in three grades

Same oak, same sizes — the grade sets how much knot and colour variation shows on the face.

  • Prime

Clean, even grain and colour with only small sound pin knots. For a clear, modern look where the timber should stay quiet.

  • Character

Sound knots, some colour variation and the odd filled feature. The classic oak look — the grade most buyers picture when they think of oak.

  • Rustic

Larger knots, filled splits and strong colour change. For pieces where the grain is the point.

Questions

Questions people ask about oak stair parts

What is the difference between floating and L-shaped stair treads?
A floating stair tread is a thick block of solid oak that is fixed into the wall or a hidden steel, so each step appears to float. An L-shaped stair tread is a tread and riser made as one piece, used for box steps and for cladding over an existing staircase. Both come in the same three grades.
Do you make handrails for glass balustrades?
Yes. Handrails for glass are grooved underneath to take a glass panel and its gasket. Tell us the glass thickness and the groove is machined to suit. Handrails for balustrades are grooved for spindles and the fillet between them instead.
Do you install?
No — we supply. Everything arrives cut to size, finished if you have asked for that, and labelled to your list, so any competent joiner, fitter or builder can fit it. For larger jobs we can put you in touch with fitters who have worked with our timber before.
How do I measure up?
A tape measure and five minutes is usually enough. Our measuring page shows what to measure for each product, in plain steps. For anything made to fit a space we ask for the size at both ends and the middle, because walls are rarely square. If you would rather not measure, send photos and we will work from those to a budget price first. How to measure, product by product →
Can I get a sample first?
Yes. Samples of the grade and finish are available for a small charge, which comes off your first order. Ask for one on the quote form.
How long does it take?
Standard sizes usually take two to three weeks from order to delivery; made-to-measure work typically three to five weeks from the day you approve the cutting list. If you have a fixed site date, tell us at enquiry stage and we will confirm whether it can be met before you commit.
